The following structures that are used to describe people in Chinese are organized according to our grammar points by level.

A1 Describing people

Grammar Point (English) Pattern Examples
Age with "sui" Subj. + Number + 岁 我 20
Connecting nouns with "shi" A + 是 + B 学生 。

A2 Describing people

Grammar Point (English) Pattern Examples
Modifying nouns with adjective + "de" Adj. + 的 + Noun 好喝 的 啤酒 / 可爱 的 宝宝
Modifying nouns with phrase + "de" Phrase + 的 + Noun 去 北京 火车。今天 来 人。

B1 Describing people

Grammar Point (English) Pattern Examples
Comparing "renjia" and "bieren" 人家 vs. 别人 因为 人家 喜欢 你 啊 。我 不 在乎 别人 怎么 说 。
Expressing comparable degree with "you" Noun 1 有 Noun 2 + Adj. + 吗? 我 帅 吗 ?

B2 Describing people

Comparing "dui" and "duiyu" 对 vs. 对于 她 很 了解 ,她 不 会 这么 做 的 。
Comparing "kanqilai" and "kanlai" 看起来 vs. 看来 这 家 餐厅 看起来 不错 。 看来 你 喜欢。
Comparing "shihe" and "heshi" 适合 vs 合适 这 个 颜色 不 适合 他 , 黑色 才 是 最 合适 的。
Comparing "xiande" and "kanqilai" 显得 vs 看起来 看起来 很 苗条 ,可能 是 这 件 衣服 显得 你 很 苗条 。
Emphasizing the doer of an action with "you" 由 + Person + Verb 这个 项目 小李 来 完成 。
Name-calling with "zhege" Noun + 这个 + Category 这个 坏蛋,就 没 做 过 一 件 好 事。
