Emphasizing negation with "you"

One of the many versatile uses of 又 is to emphasize negation, giving your negative sentence a little kick!

Structure

In this structure, 又 is used to emphasize that something didn't happen or is not the case, or will not happen. It's most often used with 不 and 没. This grammar structure is often used in an accusatory context.

又 + 不 / 没 + Verb / Adjective

Examples

• 我 又 不吃，你 随便。Wǒ yòu bù chī, nǐ suíbiàn.I'm definitely not eating it, do what you want with it.
• 她 又 不 漂亮，你为什么会喜欢她？Tā yòu bù piàoliang, nǐ wèishéme huì xǐhuan tā?She's really not beautiful, why do you like her?
• 我 又 没 做错 事情，你 为什么 生 我 的 气？Wǒ yòu méi zuò cuò shìqing, nǐ wèishéme shēng wǒ de qì?I didn't do anything wrong! Why are you mad at me?
• 又 不 是 我 做的，看 我 干 吗？Yòu bù shì wǒ zuò de, kàn wǒ gànma?I definitely didn't do that. Why are you looking at me?
• 今天又 不 下 雨，为什么 要 带 伞？Jīntiān yòu bù xià yǔ, wèishéme yào dài sǎn?It's not going to rain today. Why are you bringing the umbrella?
• 又 不 是 你 的 事情，你 管 那么 多 干 吗？Yòu bù shì nǐ de shìqing, nǐ guǎn nàme duō gànma?It's not any of your business. Why do you care so much?
• 我又 不 是 故意 的，你 不 要 这么 生气。Wǒ yòu bù shì gùyì de, nǐ bùyào zhème shēngqì.It really wasn't on purpose. Don't get mad.
