Emphasizing negation with "you"

One of the may versatile uses of 又 is to emphasize negation, giving your negative sentence a little kick!


Structure

In this structure, we emphasive what comes after the 又. Afterward, we add a negative verb or adjective. This grammar structure is often used in an accusatory context.

又 + Negative words

Examples

  • 吃,你 随便。I'm definitely not eating it, do what you want with it.
  • 漂亮,你为什么会喜欢她?She's really not beautiful, why do you like her?
  • 做错 事情,你 为什么 生 我 的 气?I didn't do anything wrong! Why are you mad at me?
  • 是 我 做的,看 我 干 吗?I definitely didn't do that. Why are you looking at me?
  • 今天 下 雨,为什么 要 带 伞?It's not going to rain today. Why are you bringing the umbrella?
  • 是 你 的 事情,你 管 那么 多 干 吗?It's not any of your business. Why do you care so much?
  • 是 故意 的,你 不 要 这么 生气。It really wasn't on purpose. Don't get mad.
