Expressing "I bet" using "liang"

In spoken Chinese, the equivalent of "I bet", as in "I bet he won't come", is to use 谅.

Structure

Using 谅 this way is a little tricky , or sometimes, angry. The closest English equivalent is "I bet“. similar to that word, 谅 also means "I think", "I expect", "I believe" or even "I bet". Usually the speaker uses 谅 this way in the first person (我).More often than not, 谅 is used with a 不or 没 and 也.

Examples

  • 他 也 不敢!
  • 你 也 不 敢 跟 那个 女的 讲话!
  • 他 也 没 胆量 做 出 这样 的 事情 来。
  • 他 是 你 不 敢 去 投诉 才 这么 说 的,你 可 不 能 就 这么 算了!
