Expressing "have to" with "budebu"

不得不 (bùdébù) has a stronger tone than 必须 (bìxū) meaning "someone cannot help but do something."

Examples

  • 我们 都 是 打工的 , 不得不 服从 公司 的 安排 。Wǒmen dōu shì dǎgōng de, bùdé bù fúcóng gōngsī de ānpái.We all work part time in accordance with the company's arrangement.
  • 你 真的 太 厉害 了 , 我 不得不 承认 。Nǐ zhēn de tài lìhàile, wǒ bùdé bù chéngrèn.You are so good. I have to admit it.
  • 电梯 又 坏了 , 我们 不得不 爬楼梯 。Diàntī yòu huàile, wǒmen bùdé bù pá lóutī.The elevator is broken again. We have to take the stairs.
  • 你 真 会 说话 ,这一点 我们 不得不 佩服 。Nǐ zhēn huì shuōhuà, zhè yīdiǎn wǒmen bùdé bù pèifú.You can really speak. Just a few words and we can't help but admire you.
  • 不好意思 ,时间 有限 ,我 不得不 打断 你 。 Bù hǎoyìsi, shíjiān yǒuxiàn, wǒ bùdé bù dǎ duàn nǐ.I'm sorry. We have very limited time. I have to interrupt you.
  • 情况 紧急,我们 不得不 马上 想 个 主意。Qíngkuàng jǐnjí, wǒmen bùdé bù mǎshàng xiǎng gè zhǔyì.In emergency situations, we must think quickly and be alert.
  • 为了 以后,我 不得不 努力 学习。Wèile yǐhòu, wǒ bùdé bù nǔlì xuéxí.I must study hard for the future.
  • 因为 生病 的 关系,他 不得不 放弃 这 次 旅行。Yīn wéi shēngbìng de guānxì, tā bùdé bù fàngqì zhè cì lǚxíng.Because he was sick, he had no choice but to give up this trip.
