Expressing "if… then…" with "jiashi"


"假使⋯⋯,就⋯⋯" (jiáshǐ..., jiù...) is another way to phrase "If..., then..." in Chinese, with this pattern being one of the most formal.

An important note is that this pattern is usually only used in written formal Chinese.

Structure

假使 + Statement + 就 + Result

Examples

  • 假使 明天 下雨,我 不 去 上班 了。Jiǎshǐ míngtiān xià yǔ, wǒ jiù bù qù shàngbān le.If it rains tomorrow, then I'm not going to work.
  • 假使 你 同意,我们 立马 签 合同。Jiǎshǐ nǐ tóngyì, wǒmen lìmǎ qiān hétóng.If you agree, then we should sign the contract right away.
  • 假使 我们 能 找到 更 多 的 赞助,我们 就 可以 帮助 更多 的 孩子。Jiǎshǐ wǒmen néng zhǎodào gèng duō de zànzhù, wǒmen jiù kěyǐ bāngzhù gèng duō de háizi.If we find even more sponsors, then we can help even more children.
