之一 (zhīyī) is one of those grammar that really gives your Chinese some polish. Using with confidence makes your Chinese sound great! Learn how to use it properly in this article.

Structure

In order to express "one of the..." in Chinese, "之一" (zhī yī) can be used at the end of the sentence.

Adj. + Noun + 之一

An important note to keep in mind is that 之一 can only follow a noun.

Examples

  • 她 是 我 的 好 朋友 之 一Tā shì wǒ de hǎo péngyou zhī yī.She is one of my best friends.
  • 对 我 来 说,纽约 是 世界 上 最 好 的 城市 之 一Duì wǒ lái shuō, Niǔyuē shì shìjiè shàng zuì hǎo de chéngshì zhī yī.According to me, New York is the one of the best cities in the world.
  • 他 觉得 百事可乐 是 最 好 喝 的 汽水 之 一Tā juédé Bǎishì kělè shì zuì hǎo hē de qìshuǐ zhī yī.He thinks Pepsi is one of the best tasting sodas.
