You can use 不要 (bùyào) to mean "don't". This is similar to the other negative command "别".

Structure

Negative commands in Chinese ("do not" or "don't") are formed with 不要. Usually the subject is omitted, as in English.

不要 + Verb

Examples

  • 不要 推 我!Don't push me!
  • 不要 说谎!Don't lie!
  • 不要 吃 很 多 肉。I don't want to eat a lot of meat.
  • 小 孩子不要 喝酒。Small kids doesn't want to drink alcohol.
  • 不要 生气,好吗?I don't want to get angry, OK?
  • 不要 哭!Don't cry!
  • 不要 在 这里 吸烟。I don't want to smoke there.
  • 不要 给 我 打 电话,我 很 忙。Don't call me, I am very busy.
  • 不要 跟 不 认识 的 人 说话。I don't want to talk to people I don't know.
