The interjection 啊 (ā) is often added to the end of sentences to create one of the following effects:

  • Friendliness
  • Enthusiasm (sometimes urgency)
  • Cuteness

Which of these it means depends entirely on the context of use. It can be added to the end of most sentences, but be careful not to overuse it!

  • 你好啊!
  • 你怎么样啊?
  • 是啊!
  • 对啊!
