In a topic-comment sentence, the usual word order is rearranged a bit in order to emphasize a certain part of a sentence. The part that is to be emphasized becomes the topic, and moves to the beginning of the sentence, with the comment on the topic coming after the topic has been stated.

Just make sure to put a comma after the topic if you are writing the sentence down!

  • 培训 的 计划 ,我们 下次 开会 讨论 。Péixùn de jìhuà, wǒmen xiàcì kāi huì tǎolùn.The price of this television isn't too expensive.
  • 上海 的 夏天 ,我 听说 又 热 又 潮湿 。Shànghǎi de xiàtiān, wǒ tīngshuō yòu rè yòu cháoshī.I've heard that it's very hot and humid in summer in Shanghai.
  • 这个 新 项目 ,公司 打算 让 我 来 负责 。Zhège xīn xiàngmù, gōngsī dǎsuàn ràng wǒ lái fùzé.The company plans to let me in charge of this new project.
  • 新 老板 的 家庭 背景 ,大家 常常 在 办公室 八卦 。Xīn lǎobǎn de jiātíng bèijǐng, dàjiā chángcháng zài bàngōngshì bāguà.People often gossip about new boss' family background.
