- Also known as: 韵母 (yùnmǔ).
The word final is a term referring to the second part of a Chinese syllable, and it consists of one or more vowel sounds, plus an "-n," "-ng," or "-r" sound. It is 韵母 (yùnmǔ) in Chinese. Most finals combine with an initial to make a syllable, but some syllables consist of only a final (such as "an"). Every Mandarin syllable must have a final.
