放松 and 轻松 seem very similar because both can be used to mean “relax” in English and as sometimes they can be used interchangeably. As well, both can be used in informal and formal settings. Nonetheless, each has distinct uses and the key difference between these two is 放松 is a verb that is best translated as “loosen up” or “loose”, whereas 轻松 is an adjective that is best translated as “light” or “pressure free”.
