Comparing "fujin" and "zhouwei"

附近 and 周围 both are nouns that are used to describe close proximity or distance. Many times these words can be used interchangeably, although they have different meanings when used as such. 附近 is used in informal settings, whereas 周围 is used in both informal and formal settings. 附近 is best translated as “nearby” a specific location, whereas 周围 is best translated as “around” an area.
