Expressing "compared with" using "gen"

这个句型可以用于比较不同事物的同一个方面，也可以用于比较同一个事物在不同时期的差异。

Comparison with Two Different Subjects

Structure

跟 + A + 比 ， B ~

B也可以放在句首，"跟"的前面：

B + 跟 + A + 比 ， ~

Examples

• 跟 姐姐 比 ，妹妹 有点 害羞 。Gēn jiějie bǐ, mèimei yǒudiǎn hàixiū.Compared to the older sister, the younger sister is a bit shy.
• 跟 上海 比 ，我 老家 的 物价 便宜 多了 。Gēn Shànghǎi bǐ, wǒ lǎojiā de wùjià piányi duō le.Compared to Shanghai, prices in my hometown are a lot cheaper.
• 跟 纽约 比 ，北京 的 冬天 比较 干 。Gēn Niǔyuē bǐ, Běijīng de dōngtiān bǐjiào gàn.Compared to New York, Beijing's winters are more dry.
• 那个 老外 的 中文 跟 John 比 ，马马虎虎 。 Nàge lǎowài de Zhōngwén gēn John bǐ, mǎmahūhū.Compared to John, that foreigner's Chinese is so-so.
• WhatsApp 跟 微信 比 ，功能 没 那么 多 。WhatsApp gēn Wēixìn bǐ, gōngnéng méi nàme duō.Compared to WeChat, WhatsApp is not as functional.

• 跟 去年 比 ，你 的 中文 进步 了 很多 。Gēn qùnián bǐ, nǐ de Zhōngwén jìnbù le hěn duō. .
• 跟 几十 年 前 比 ，农村 人 的 生活 好 多了 。Gēn jǐshí nián qián bǐ, nóngcūn rén de shēnghuó hǎo duō le. .
• 跟 上 半 年 比 ，公司 下 半 年 的 利润 下降 了 。Gēn shàng bàn nián bǐ, gōngsī xià bàn nián de lìrùn xiàjiàng le. .
• 跟 前 几 周 比 ，这 周 的 天气 舒服 多了 。Gēn qián jǐ zhōu bǐ, zhè zhōu de tiānqì shūfu duō le. .
• 跟 年轻 的 时候 比 ，爸爸 的 身体 没 那么 好 了 。Gēn niánqīng de shíhou bǐ, bàba de shēntǐ méi nàme hǎo le. .
