由此 means "根据这个(原因或者情况)" and used to draw conclusions from a reason or a situation. Usually 由此 is paired with 可见, 看来，说来 and other similar verbs or verb phrases.

Notice the last two example sentences。 Sentences like those can be used to write a conclusion or summarize a point.
