Expressing "one of" with "zhiyi"

之一 (zhīyī) is one of those words that really gives your Chinese some polish. Using it with confidence makes your Chinese sound great! Learn how to use 之一 (zhīyī) properly in this article.

Structure

In order to express "one of the..." in Chinese, "之一" (zhī yī) can be used at the end of the sentence.

[Noun Phrase] + 之一

An important note to keep in mind is that 之一 can only follow a noun.

Examples

• 她 是 我 的 好 朋友 之 一 。Tā shì wǒ de hǎo péngyou zhī yī.She is one of my best friends.
• 对 我 来 说，纽约 是 世界 上 最 好 的 城市 之 一 。Duì wǒ lái shuō, Niǔyuē shì shìjiè shàng zuì hǎo de chéngshì zhī yī.According to me, New York is the one of the best cities in the world.
• 他 觉得 百事可乐 是 最 好 喝 的 汽水 之 一 。Tā juédé Bǎishì kělè shì zuì hǎo hē de qìshuǐ zhī yī.He thinks Pepsi is one of the best tasting sodas.
