It's important to be able to indicate "from a certain time on" when expressing a situation or event that occurred after said time. The "自……起" structure is especially helpful and easy to use in order to express "from (time) on."

Structure

自 + time (date, year, decade) + 起, result/situation

Examples

  • 我记事,奶奶就已经很老了. My grandmother has been very old since I can remember.
  • 有共享单车,我再也不想走路了. Since I used the bike share, I have not wanted to walk.
  • 他找到工作,他就没有那么低落了. He has not been so down since he got the job.
