Contemporary Chinese (当代中文), by Sinolingua, is a comprehensive textbook series on the rise. Book 4 is equivalent to B1-B2 difficulty.

  1. Lesson One
    • 倒(是) Adverb: actually, on the contrary, ( ... would like to ... )
    • 有(影响) "有" + certain nouns (usually abstract nouns ) may form an adjectival phrase ,and the negative form of this is : "有" + noun.
    • 确实 Adverb: indeed, really
    • 进行 Verb: to be in progress, to carry out ( an action) , to conduct, to engage in
    • 增加 Verb: to increase, to add ( to )
    • 受 Verb: to receive, to accept; to stand, to endure
    • 意识 Noun: consciousness, sense
    • -化 Suffix: -ize; -ify
  2. Lesson Two
    • 以为 Verb: "以为" often refers to an incorrect judgement, while "认为" indicates an opinion
    • 失望 Verb: to be disappointed, to lose hope
    • ......得很 This is a coplement of degree. It means " very " and is always placed after a verb or an abjective
    • 理,理睬 Verb: to pay attention to, to show interest in, to pay heed to .It is usually used in a negative construction, and rarely in an affirmative sentence.
    • 同- Prefix: same, similar, alike
    • -际 Suffix: inter-, between, among
    • 起来 Verb: "起来" means to stand up, sit up, rise up, or arise (originate).
    • 当 Verb: to work as, to serve as, to be
  3. Lesson Three
    • 俩 "俩" means "两个, " therefore "俩" does not require a measure word
    • 管 Verb: to discipline; to be in charge of; to bother about
    • 要求 Verb: to request, to demand, to require, to claim
    • - 方 Suffix: -side
    • 负责 Verb: to be in charge of, to be responsible for
    • 得到 Verb: to get, to obtain, to gain, to receive
    • 同意 Verb: to agree, to consent, to approve
  4. Lesson Four
    • 详细 Adjective: detailed, minute
    • 不利 Adjective: unfavourable, disadvantageous, harmful
    • 好 Adverb: quite (a few, a while) ; very
    • 资金 Noun: capital
    • 总算 Adverb: at long last, finally. This often denotes the fulfillment of a wise, after a long struggle or great effort.
    • 普通 Addjective: common, ordinary, average
    • 目前 Time word: at present, at the moment
    • 莫名其妙 Idiom: odd, inexplicable, without reason ,to be baffled, bafflingly, unaccountable

    • 中 Verb: to hit, win, fall into, to be hit by
    • 更改 Verb: to change, correct
    • 完全 Adverb: completely, fully, absolutely, entirely
    • 曾经 Adverb: once, formerly
    • -者 Suffix: placed after an adjective or a verb to substitute for a noun (person or a thing)
    • 毕竟 Adverb: after all, in the final analysis, in the end
    • 成 Measure word: one tenth, ten percent
    • 意味着 Verb: to mean, imply, signify

    • 双 Adjective: two, double, twin, even, dual, both
    • 通过 Verb: to pass, go through, adopt
    • - 性 A suffix indicating a property or characteristic
