Using "budan... geng" to express "not only... but also"

Revision as of 08:05, 25 July 2018 by Tun (talk | contribs)

We've seen multiple ways to express "not only... but also..." 不但 can be followed by 而且 (ér qiě), 还 (hái), or 也 (yě). This structure expresses an equal degree of importance between the two scenarios and situations. However, 不但 followed by 更 (gèng) expresses a different degree of importance between the two situations mentioned. The situation following 更 (gèng) has a greater impact or degree of importance than the situation following 不但.
