Modal particle "ne"

You may have already learned how to ask questions with 呢 (ne), but did you know that it's also used in statements? In this usage, 呢 (ne) is imparting a certain "mood" (hence the word "modal") or "attitude." It's used when trying to sound more confident and convincing to someone else.

• 我 不 要 回家 。还 早 呢 ！Wǒ bù yào huíjiā. Hái zǎo ne!I don't want to go home. It's still early!
• 太远了，坐火车要十个小时呢。Tài yuǎn le, zuò huǒchē yào shí gè xiǎoshí ne..
• 他晚上十点才来呢。Tā wǎnshang shí diǎn cái lái ne..
• 春节离我们还远呢。Chūnjié lí wǒmen hái yuǎn ne..
• 你才跑了两百米，还有八百米呢。Nǐ cái pǎo le liǎng bǎi mǐ, háiyǒu bā bǎi mǐ ne..
• 你还听这个歌呢。Nǐ hái tīng zhège gē ne..
• 你怎么还在吃呢？Nǐ zěnme hái zài chī ne..
