In spoken Chinese, the equivalent of "I bet", as in "I bet he won't come", is to use 谅.

Structure

Using 凉 this way is a little tricky. The closest English equivalent is "I bet“. similar to that word, 谅 also means "I think", "I expect", "I believe" or even "I bet". Usually the speaker uses 谅 this way in the first person (我).More often than not, 谅 is used with a 不 or 没.

谅 + Subject + verb phrase

Examples

  • 他 也 都 不敢!
  • 小王 昨天 晚上 很 晚 睡觉,我 他 还 没有 起床。
  • 你 也 不 敢 跟 那个 女的 讲话!

谅 is often used together with 也, as seen in the frist and third examples above.
