Expressing "your side" with "ben"

In formal written Chinese, 本 can mean "this side", as in "this company" or "this country". It always refers to the side that the speaker is on.

Basic Structure

本 can means a few different types of "this". It can refer to oneself, a place, or even a certain time.

本 + Noun

本 is often used with 公司, 国, 校 etc. As shown in the folowing examples.

Examples

  • "顾客至上" 是 公司 的 商业 理念。
  • 校 不 允许 学生 在 校园 里 喝酒。
  • 王 先生 在 公司 是 鼎鼎有名 的。
  • 人 来自 美国 的 东北部,纽约市 的 市郊。

Notice that the last example is 本人. It expresses "this person", which is like a fancy way of saying 我. This is especially common is resumes and cover letters.
