Passive verbs with "shou"

Revision as of 07:35, 15 June 2012 by Yangrenjun (talk | contribs)

受 (shòu) means "to receive" or "to obtain"; added before a verb puts the verb in the passive. A subject can be placed between the 受 and verb, as in the first example 受学生的欢迎.

Here are some examples:

  • 张老师的课 很 学生 的 欢迎
  • 在 今天 的 中国 有钱人 很 受 人 尊重
  • 他 虽然 没有 到 过 高等 教育,但是 知识 很 渊博。

受 can also be used with verbs of negative meaning, meaning "to suffer".

For example:

  • 了 老师 的 批评 之后,他 再 也 不 敢 迟到。
  • 冷 空气 的 影响,今天 上海 特别 冷。
