Denying and refusing

The following structures are used to negate or refuse something (usually an adjective or a verb) in Chinese. They are organized according to our grammar points by level.

A1 Denying and refusing

Grammar Point (English) Pattern Examples
Negation of "you" with "mei" 没 + 有 没有 钱 。
Negation of past actions with "meiyou" 没有 + Verb 没有 去 酒吧。
Negative commands with "buyao" 不要 + Verb 不要 说 英文!
Standard negation with "bu" 不 + Verb / Adj. 他们 是 坏 孩子。

A2 Denying and refusing

Basic comparisons with "meiyou" Noun 1 + 没(有) + Noun 2 + Adj. 没有 我 胖 。
Comparing "bu" and "mei" 不 vs 没 我 今天 晚上 吃饭。昨天 晚上 我 吃饭。
Expressing "stop doing" with "bie… le" 别 + Verb + 了 ,烦 死了 。
Negative commands with "bie" 别 + Verb 走。

B1 Denying and refusing
