Intensifying with "duo"

One way to intensify a sentence is to make it an exclamation. To do this, you can use 多 (duō). It's really exciting!

Structure

As well as asking about degree, you can also use 多 (duō) to intensify adjectives.

Subj. + 多 + Adj. !

Examples

  • 外面 舒服 ! Wàimian duō shūfu! It's so nice outside!
  • 好 ! Duō hǎo! That's great!
  • 这 种 啤酒 好喝 ! Zhè zhǒng píjiǔ duō hǎohē! This kind of beer tastes great!
  • 你 看 这 个 地方 , 美 ! Nǐ kàn zhè ge dìfang, duō měi! Look at this place, it is so beautiful!
  • 学 中文 有 意思 ! Xué zhōngwén duō yǒu yìsi! Studying Chinese is so interesting!
  • 你 穿 这么 少 , 冷 啊 ! Nǐ chuān zhème shǎo, duō lěng a! You are wearing so few clothes, you must be so cold!
  • 他们 每天 工作 十 二 个 小时 , 累 ! Tāmen měitiān gōngzuò shí èr gè xiǎoshí, duō lèi! They work twelve hours every day, they must be so tired!
  • 这样 做 不 方便 ! Zhèyàng zuò duō bù fāngbiàn! This is so inconvenient!
  • 这 个 游戏 好玩 ! Zhè ge yóuxì duō hǎowán! This game is so much fun!
  • 这 个 房子 离 地铁 站 很 近 , 方便 ! Zhè ge fángzi lí dìtiě zhàn hěn jìn, duō fāngbiàn! This apartment is very close to the metro, it's so convenient!
  • 好吃 ! Duō hǎochī! It is so delicious!
  • 汉字 难 ! 我 不 学 。 Hànzì duō nán! Wǒ bù xué. Chinese characters are so difficult! I don't study them.

多 (duō) can be compared to 很 (hěn) in this case. As you can see, if you use 很 (hěn) instead of 多 (duō), the meaning is basically the same. The exact meaning of 很 (hěn) is "very"and the exact meaning of 多 (duō) is "a lot." These two words can easily be interchanged as desired without changing the meaning.
