以便 (yǐbiàn) is a formal way to say "in order to" or "to facilitate," and is generally used to show that an outcome is the result of a particular action.

Structure

[Action] + 以便 (+ 能) + [Outcome]

Examples

  • 我们 很 早 就 去 了 机场,以便 能 赶上 最早 的飞机。Wǒmen hěn zǎo jiù qù le jīchǎng, yǐbiàn néng gǎnshàng zuìzǎo de fēijī.We got to the airport very early so we could make the earliest flight.
  • 我 正在 存钱,以便 我 能 买 一 套 房子。Wǒ zhèngzài cúnqián, yǐbiàn wǒ néng mǎi yī tào fángzi.We're saving money so we can buy a house.
  • 公司 准备 派 人 去 客户 那里,以便 能 和 客户 更 好 地 沟通。Gōngsī zhǔnbèi pài rén qù kèhù nàlǐ, yǐbiàn néng hé kèhù gèng hǎo de gōutōng.The company is preparing to send someone to the clients so as to be able to better communicate with them.
  • 我国 提倡 垃圾 分类,以便 回收 再利用。Wǒguó tíchàng lèsè fēnlèi, yǐbiàn huíshōu zài lìyòng.My country advocates garbage sorting to help with reuse and recycling.
  • 老李 买 了 一 辆 折叠式 的 自行车,以便 携带。Lǎo Lǐ mǎi le yī liàng zhédié-shì de zìxíngchē, yǐbiàn xiédài.Lao Li bought a folding bike to make it easier to carry around.
  • 老师 减慢 了 语速,以便 学生 能 听懂。Lǎoshī jiǎnmàn le yǔsù, yǐbiàn xuéshēng néng tīngdǒng.The teacher slowed down her rate of speech so that the students could understand her.
  • 我 把 所有 的 资料 都 进行 了 分类,以便 以后 查找 。Wǒ bǎ suǒyǒu de zīliào dōu jìnxíngle fēnlèi, yǐbiàn yǐhòu cházhǎo.We sorted all the data so that we can find it later.
  • 请 您 及时 告诉 我 您的 时间,以便 我们 尽快 安排 好 您的 课程。Qǐng nín jíshí gàosù wǒ nín de shíjiān, yǐbiàn wǒmen jìnkuài ānpái hǎo nín de kèchéng.Please tell me the times that work for you soon so I can schedule your classes.
  • 他 选择 了 一 个 简单 的 工作,以便 下班 以后 可以 陪 孩子。Tā xuǎnzé le yī gè jiǎndān de gōngzuò, yǐbiàn xiàbān yǐhòu kěyǐ péi háizi.He chose a simple job so that he can spend more time with the children after work.
  • 你 为什么 不 往前 一点,以便 看 得 更 清楚 些?Nǐ wèishéme bù wǎng qián yīdiǎn, yǐbiàn kàn de gèng qīngchǔ xiē?Why didn't you move forward a little to get a somewhat clearer view?
