Comparing "yishi" and "yidu"

一时(yī shí) and 一度(yī dù) both look like they have the same meaning, and the way they are used structurally is the same, but in actuality they are pretty different.

一度 can mean "only once"

When 一度 means "once," it is used in a set phrase, like "一年一度."

当一度表示一次时，一般有个固定用法“一年一度”。

• 一年一度 的 樱花节 又 要 开幕 了。

一度 can also mean a time period that has passed

一度 can also express diong something in a period of time that has passed. It is often a bad thing, and it often is placed with a verb or verb phrase.

表示过去一段时间一直做了某件事，大多数是不好的事情。常常后面接动词或动词短语

一时 can mean "a short while"

一时 can express doing something in a period of time whether it has passed or not.

Examples

• 这种 现象 只是 一时 的。
• 这 雨 一时 半会儿 停 不 了。
• 听到 太太 这么 说，他 一时 没 反应 过来。
• 这 个 问题 确实 很 难， 一时 理解 不 了 没 关系。
• 亚里士多德 的 理论 早已 盛行一时。

一时 can also mean "sometimes, temporary or suddenly"
