Expressing "if… then…" with "jiashi"

"假使⋯⋯,就⋯⋯" (jiáshǐ..., jiù...) is another way to phrase "If..., then..." in Chinese, with this pattern being one of the most formal.

An important note is that this pattern is usually only used in written formal Chinese.

Structure

假使 + Statement + 就 + Result

Examples

  • 假使 明天 下雨,我 不 去 上班 了。Jiǎshǐ míngtiān xià yǔ, wǒ jiù bù qù shàngbān le.If it rains tomorrow, then I'm not going to work.
  • 假使 你 同意,我们 立马 签 合同。Jiǎshǐ nǐ tóngyì, wǒmen lìmǎ qiān hétóng.If you agree, then we should sign the contract right away.
  • 假使 我们 能 找到 更 多 的 赞助,我们 可以 帮助 更多 的 孩子。Jiǎshǐ wǒmen néng zhǎodào gèng duō de zànzhù, wǒmen jiù kěyǐ bāngzhù gèng duō de háizi.If we find even more sponsors, then we can help even more children.
  • 假使 你 满意,我们 会 很 开心。 Jiǎshǐ nǐ mǎnyì, wǒmen huì hěn kāixīn.If you are satisfied, we will be happy.
  • 假使 这些 办法 不 可靠,我们 还 可以 想 其他的 办法。Jiǎshǐ zhèxiē bànfǎ bù kěkào, wǒmen hái kěyǐ xiǎng qítā de bànfǎ.If these solutions are not reliable, we can think of other solutions.
  • 假使 你 要 去 留学,现在 情况 也 不 允许 你 出国。Jiǎshǐ nǐ yào qù liúxué, xiànzài qíngkuàng yě bù yǔnxǔ nǐ chūguó.If you were to study abroad, the situation would not allow you to leave the country.
