以便 (yǐbiàn) is a formal way to say "in order to" or "to facilitate," and is generally used to show that an outcome is the result of a particular action.

Structure

[Action] + 以便 + [Outcome]

Examples

  • 我们 很早 就 去 了 机场,以便 能 赶上 最 早 的飞机。Wǒmen hěn zǎo jiù qù le jīchǎng, yǐbiàn néng gǎn shàng zuìzǎo de fēijī.We got to the airport very early so we could make the earliest flight.
  • 我 正在 存 钱,以便 我 能 买 一 个 房子。Wǒ zhèngzài cún qián, yǐbiàn wǒ néng mǎi yī gè fángzi.We're saving money so we can buy a house.
  • 公司 准备 派 人 去 客 户那里,以便 能 和 客户 更好地 沟通。Gōngsī zhǔnbèi pài rén qù kèhù nàlǐ, yǐbiàn néng hé kèhù gèng hǎo dì gōutōng.The company is preparing to send people to the customers so as to be able to better communicate with them.
  • 我国 提倡 垃圾 分类,以便 回收 再利用。Wǒguó tíchàng lèsè fēnlèi, yǐbiàn huíshōu zài lìyòng.My country advocates garbage classification to help with reusing and recycling.
  • 老李 买 了 一 辆 折叠 式 的 自行车,以便 携带。Lǎo Lǐ mǎile yī liàng zhédié shì de zìxíngchē, yǐbiàn xiédài.Old Li bought a folding bike to make it easier to carry around.
  • 老师 减慢 了 语速,以便 学生 能 听懂。Lǎoshī jiǎn mànle yǔ sù, yǐbiàn xuéshēng néng tīng dǒng.The teacher slowed down her talking speed so that the students could understand her.
  • 我 把 所有 的 资料 都 进行 了 分类,以便 以后 查找。Wǒ bǎ suǒyǒu de zīliào dōu jìnxíngle fēnlèi, yǐbiàn yǐhòu cházhǎo.We sorted all the data so we can find it later.
  • 请 您 及时 告诉 我 您的 时间,以便 我们 尽快 安排 好 您的 课程。Qǐng nín jíshí gàosù wǒ nín de shíjiān, yǐbiàn wǒmen jǐnkuài ānpái hǎo nín de kèchéng.Please tell me a time that works for you so I can schedule your class.
  • 他 选择 了 一 个 简单的 工作,以便 下班 以后 可以 陪 孩子。Tā xuǎnzéle yī gè jiǎndān de gōngzuò, yǐbiàn xiàbān yǐhòu kěyǐ péi háizi.He chose an easy job so he can take care of the children after work.
  • 你 为什么 不 往前 一点,以便 看得 更 清楚 些?Nǐ wèishéme bù wǎng qián yīdiǎn, yǐbiàn kàn de gèng qīngchǔ xiē?Why didn't you move forward a little to get a better view?
