结果 (jiéguǒ) can be used as a conjunction or adverb, meaning "as a result" or "consequently." It comes at the beginning of the sentence and is typically used to introduce a negative or undesirable result.

Examples

  • 她 穿 得 太 少 了,结果 第 二 天 就 感冒 了。Tā chuān de tài shǎo le,jiéguǒ dì èr tiān jiù gǎnmào le. She didn't wear enough, as a result, she had a cold the next day.
  • 我 昨天 去 跟 朋友 喝酒,结果 喝醉 了。Wǒ zuótiān qù gēn péngyou hējiǔ, jiéguǒ hē zuì le. I went to have a drink with my friends yesterday. As a result, I got drunk.
  • 他 没 好好 复习, 结果 没 通过 考试。Tā méi hǎohao fùxí, jiéguǒ méi tōngguò kǎoshì. He didn't review well. As a result, he didn't pass the exam.
