Adding emphasis with "fei....buke"

"非...不可" (fēi... bùkě) can generally be used to emphasize something must be done or must be someone. Actually it has the similar meaning with"必须," however, it can be used in different situations.

Structure

Subject + 非 + Verb Phrase + 不可

Expressing determination

When used before a verb, 非...不可 expresses that the speaker has strong desire and determination to do that thing.

Examples

• 我 非 打 死 你 不可。
• 我 非 问 清楚 不可。
• 我 非 把 他 找 回来 不可。
• 这 件 事 我 想 了 很 久，现在 非 说 不可。
• 我 今天 非 让 他 给 我 一个 答复 不可。
• 我们 之间 已经 没有 爱 了，这 个 婚 非 离 不可。
• 不是 说 孩子 要 的 东西 就 非 买 不可，父母 应该 理性 对待。

Expressing necessity

非...不可 can be used to indicate that something must be done under a certain situation.

Examples

• 只有 小王 最 熟悉 那种 产品，非 他 去 不可。
• 在 这儿 购物 非 有 会员卡 不可 吗？
• 这 张 电影 票 明天 就 到期 了，非 今天 去 看 不可。
• 我 说 的 话 他 不 听，非 你 去 劝 他 不可。
• 我 同事 很 喜欢 这 个 菜，每次 来 这儿 吃饭，都 非 点 它 不可。

Predicting future events

非...不可 can also be used to predict that something will happen in the future. This is similar to how in English we might say, "Tomorrow is going to be cold, it will snow for sure."

Examples

• 你们 不 好好 训练，明天 的 球赛 非 输 不可。
• 你 再 继续 偷 东西，非 进 监狱 不可。
• 你 再 说 下去，他 非 生气 不可。
• 他 再 吃 那么 咸 的 菜，血压 非 上去 不可。
• 我们 再 不 出发，非 迟到 不可。
