Expressing "will" with "hui"

会 (huì) has multiple uses, but in this context, it is being used to express the possibility of an action happening in the future.

Structure

As well as expressing a learned skill, 会 (huì) can also be used to indicate that something will happen or that someone will do something.


Subj. + 会 + Verb + Obj.

Examples

  • 明天 你 来 吗 ? Míngtiān nǐ huì lái ma? Will you come tomorrow?
  • 今晚 我 去 饭店 吃饭 。 Jīnwǎn wǒ huì qù fàndiàn chīfàn. Tonight I will go to the restaurant to eat.
  • 考 上 大学 。 huì kǎoshàng dàxué. He will test into college.
  • 明天 下 雨 。 Míngtiān huì xiàyǔ. It will rain tomorrow.
  • 下班 以后 , 我 给 你 打电话 。 Xiàbān yǐhòu, wǒ huì gěi nǐ dǎ diànhuà. After getting off work, I will give you a call.
  • 今年 圣诞节 , 我 回家 。 Jīnnián Shèngdànjié, wǒ huì huíjiā. This Christmas, I will return home.
  • 今天 晚上 , 我 和 朋友 一起 吃饭 。 Jīntiān wǎnshang, wǒ huì hé péngyou yīqǐ chīfàn. This evening, my friend and I will eat together.
  • 下 个 月 , 我 的 妹妹 来 上海 。 Xià gè yuè, wǒ de mèimei huì lái Shànghǎi. Next month, My little sister will arrive in Shanghai.
  • 他 不 跟 你 结婚 。 Tā bù huì gēn nǐ jiéhūn. He won't marry you.
  • 我 不 告诉 你 。 Wǒ bù huì gàosu nǐ. I won't tell you.
